Your plans for next weekend should include a stop by one of downtown’s newest eateries. Chef BJ Mueller of Cutting Edge Catering and The Saucewagon has a new home base in the Nevada Museum of Art. Composition Café is open now for lunch Wednesday through Sunday. But the big news is their evening hours launching next week.

Tapas and Wine Bar

I chatted with chef BJ about his vision for the new tapas menu and how he would be making it a bit different that what we are used to seeing in Reno. First of all, the menu will have new items every week. He plans to include three to four new options each week, while keeping a few items from the previous week. This will allow him to use the freshest and most seasonal ingredients on the menu and always serve something interesting. His pastry chef will also be creating new desserts each week for the menu.

The tapas menu will be served Fridays and Saturdays along with a great selection of wines and signature cocktails. The signature drinks are designed by Boyd from The Zephyr and will feature all natural sugars, fresh fruits, house made syrups and premium spirits.

Lunch time eats

The signature Composition Burger is really the start of the show here. Wagyu beef, warm prosciutto, brie, red onion marmalade and watercress make for an amazingly tasty burger with great layers of flavor. It may just be the best in Reno! (Campo’s burger is seriously tasty as well. Still need to try the burger at SoDo which I hear great things about) The lunch menu will be expanded on July 7th to include more options for sandwiches, burgers and salads with a focus on interesting combinations of fresh ingredients. Chef BJ plans to cycle his menus seasonally so you’ll always get the best.

Sunday Jazz Brunch

The third Sunday of each month will feature live jazz music, fresh mimosas, classics such as Eggs Benedict and an omelet station. It will make for a great quiet spot to grab a tasty bite to eat and spend a Sunday morning.
